Synclar is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat skin and respiratory infections. It is effective against a variety of bacterial infections impacting the skin and respiratory system. Additionally, it is administered alongside other medications to address stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori.

Synclar is part of the macrolide antibiotic class, which works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. This mechanism primarily has a bacteriostatic effect, though it can also be bactericidal. Macrolides typically accumulate within white blood cells, allowing them to be transported directly to the site of infection. Synclar is effective against pathogens such as Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, mycobacterium avium, and others, making it suitable for treating various bacterial infections of the skin and respiratory system, as well as stomach ulcers linked to Helicobacter pylori.

It can be taken with or without food along with a large glass of water. Swallow the tablet whole and avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. Continue using Synclar even if your symptoms diminish and you are feeling better. The typical duration of treatment ranges from 7 to 14 days, or longer if stomach ulcers are being addressed.

Synclar should not be used by individuals allergic to erythromycin or any of its derivatives or other macrolide antibiotics. If you suffer from liver or kidney diseases, electrolyte imbalances (such as low potassium or magnesium levels), or certain heart conditions, consult your doctor before using Synclar. This medication is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Synclar is contraindicated in patients known to be hypersensitive to clarithromycin, erythromycin, or any of the macrolide antibiotics.

If you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction such as hives, difficulty in breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, or if you notice more severe health issues like irregular heartbeats, chest pain, nausea, abdominal pain, low-grade fever, or hearing problems, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately or seek urgent medical attention.

Synclar may interact with medications such as cisapride, pimozide, and ergot derivatives, potentially leading to severe heart rhythm disturbances.

Avoid taking a double dose of Synclar. If it’s nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your medication schedule as prescribed.

Potential signs of overdose include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. If you suspect you have taken an excessive amount of Biaxin, reach out to your doctor for assistance.
